CNU

Christopher Newport University draws approximately 5,000 students from Virginia and across the country for undergraduate and graduate programs. Christopher Newport University continues to expand its campus as it grows to meet the demand for an expanded, full service university within the community.  As the University expands, a close rapport will ensure a harmonious relationship with the surrounding neighborhood.

Police and Fire

The police office on Dresden Drive houses the Central precinct from which the District's neighborhood police patrols operate. The Police Department's staffing of precincts increases police visibility in neighborhoods.   The City’s police headquarters is also located in the district north of Mercury Boulevard.

There are four fire stations in District II: Fire Station No. 3 on Municipal Lane in Hilton, Fire Station No. 6 on Oyster Point Road, Fire Station No. 8 on J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, and Fire Station No. 10 on Warwick Boulevard in Hidenwood.  A new fire station will replace Fire Station #3 and will be built on Jefferson Avenue north of Main Street near Brentwood.  The existing Fire Station #3 in Hilton Village, should be restored and used as a retail shop, restaurant, or museum.

Institutional Facilities

A centrally located, government complex is located in Oyster Point at CityCenter. This complex provides essential City functions in a location that is more accessible to the majority of the City's population.  As City Center expands, other government uses appropriate for City Center, such as a central library, may locate there.

The Main Street library is located in Hilton and contributes to the vitality of the neighborhood by providing space for community meetings and more efficient library and information services to the central portion of the district.
